Created as a showcase for extravagant summer entertainments, Rosecliff was modeled after the Grand Trianon, a baroque pavilion built in the great park of Versailles.
After the house was completed in 1902, it hosted some of the most lavish social events of the Gilded Age, including a fairy-tale dinner and a party featuring magician Harry Houdini.
Rosecliff continues in that tradition today and has been featured in many Hollywood films including The Great Gatsby, True Lies, 27 Dresses, and Amistad.
Whether you are having an intimate wedding or a grand extravaganza, imagine having your wedding in one of America’s most timelessly elegant and romantic locations. For an unforgettable wedding, consider Rosecliff, a Gilded Age masterpiece, as the setting for your elegant evening reception.
The snow-white terra cotta mansion, with classic lines, features the largest private ballroom in Newport and a heart-shaped staircase that provides the perfect frame for your wedding portraits.
Your guests will enjoy views of the vast oceanfront landscape while they dine and dance under gilded bronze and crystal chandeliers and the trompe-l’oeil ceiling of painted clouds drifting across the blue sky in the ballroom.
Designed by architect Stanford White of McKim, Mead, and White, Rosecliff was created as a showcase for extravagant entertainments and was modeled after the Grand Trianon, the palace of Louis XIV of France.
Offering stunning indoor and outdoor settings, we welcome you to plan your unforgettable private social, organization, or corporate event from black-tie galas to intimate evening celebrations of all sizes.
A National Historic Landmark, Marble House was built for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was the most lavish house in America when it opened in 1892. Marble House was the scene of both elaborate balls and rallies to raise funds for the women’s suffrage movement. The view from the canopied terrace overlooks the colorful Chinese Tea House and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Modeled after the 18th-century French Château d’Asnières outside Paris, The Elms complements its architectural elegance with an outstanding collection of art including tapestries, large-scale paintings and statuary. The landscape abounds with terraces, marble and bronze sculptures, fine specimen trees and a lavish lower garden featuring marble pavilions and elaborate fountains.
