Q: What are the benefits of membership and how often can I use it? Membership gives you free, unlimited access to all regular tours of the Newport Mansions. As a member, you receive a discount on tickets to events such as the Newport Flower Show, the Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival and special tours. Members also receive a 10% discount in all Newport Mansions Stores. Return to the Become a Member page for a full listing of benefits.
As part of the membership package, you will receive one pass to the Behind the Scenes tour of The Elms for each person listed on the membership, which can be used at any time.
Q: How do I purchase a membership and how long will it take for my membership materials to arrive? If you purchase your membership at the Newport Mansions on the day of your visit, you will receive a temporary membership card and a Behind the Scenes pass to The Elms immediately. Your permanent membership card will arrive in the mail 2-3 weeks later.
If you purchase your membership online before you visit, you will receive an automatic email from the membership office that you can use to gain admission to the houses until your membership package arrives in the mail. Return to the Become a Member page to purchase your membership now.
You can call the membership office at (401) 847-1000 ext. 111 and order your membership over the phone. Your membership package will arrive in the mail 2-3 weeks later.
Q: If I buy my membership today, can I use it right away? Yes! Both your membership and the Behind the Scenes pass can be used immediately.
Q: How long is my membership valid? Memberships are good for one full year from the month of purchase. For example, if you purchase your membership on the 2nd of the month, it is good until the 31st of the same month the following year. If you are renewing your membership, your membership is active from the day we receive your membership renewal until the end of the same month the following year.
Q: How many names can be on a membership? An individual membership is for 1 named adult. You can name up to 2 adults who reside in the same household starting at the dual level membership and higher. We do not list children's names on membership; however we do list the number of children on the membership. Adults living at separate addresses cannot be named on the same membership.
Q: Can I give my membership card to a friend/relative to use for a visit? No, your membership cards are in your name only, and may not be used by anyone else. This helps preserve the value of your membership by entitling only those who have paid their dues to the many benefits offered. If you are a member at the Steward level or above, you may give your friends one of the guest passes that are part of the membership package.

Q: If I am single, but purchase a Dual membership, can I bring a different guest with me each time I visit? No, a Dual membership is for two NAMED adults living at the same address.
Q: Do my guests receive a discount on their admission? No, the membership is good for the named adults on the membership card only. Guests can purchase a membership or a ticket. If you are a member at the Steward level or above, you receive guest passes that you can give to your guests. Please email the membership office for more details at members@newportmansions.org.
Q: Our children (or grandchildren) are under 6. Should I have a Household membership? Children under 6 are admitted to the Newport Mansions for free. If your children (or grandchildren) are not turning 6 within the year of your membership, you may want to have a Dual or Individual membership instead of Household.
Q: Can I apply the cost of the tickets I bought when I visited toward a new membership? Yes, you may apply the amount you paid for tickets to your new membership. You can apply one adult admission towards an Individual membership, two adult admissions towards a Dual membership, and two adult admissions plus related youth admissions towards Household and higher categories of membership. You may upgrade to a membership at the ticket booth at any Newport Mansions location, or you may send your ticket stubs with your membership application and check for the difference to the Preservation Society of Newport County Membership Office, 424 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840. Q: Can I upgrade my membership to a higher level? Yes, you can upgrade your membership to a higher membership level at any time during the membership year, or at the time of your membership renewal. Include the membership level you would like to upgrade to, the additional names on the membership and a check for the difference. Q: Can I change the second adult’s name on the membership card after I purchased the membership? You can change the second adult’s name on the membership card at the time of renewal for your membership.
Q: How do I get a replacement membership card if I have lost my card? Call the membership office at (401) 847-1000 ext. 111 or email members@newportmansions.org. If you are calling to request a replacement card, include your name, address and phone number. A replacement card will arrive in the mail within 2-3 weeks. We will not replace guest passes or the Behind the Scenes pass to The Elms. There is no fee to get a replacement membership card.
Q: Are my membership dues tax deductible? Individual, Dual, and Household membership levels are fully tax deductible. A substantial portion of higher categories are tax deductible, each level is different. Return to the Become a Member page for specific tax deductibility amounts for each membership level.
Q: I lost my tax ID letter for a charitable contribution to the Preservation Society, how do I get a replacement for tax purposes? Call the development office at (401) 847-1000 ext. 137 or email development@newportmansions.org and a new letter will be sent to you. Please remember to include your name, your current address and phone number as well as the type and amount of contribution for which you need a new letter.
