Newport Mansions Tours

New for 2009:   The Breakers Revealed, a new audio tour
See newly-opened rooms and hear Vanderbilt family remembrances and stories of servant life.

You should allow 90 minutes to visit each property, permitting your group to enjoy the house, grounds and the Newport Mansions Stores.

Subject to operating schedule, guided tours are provided at Chateau-sur-Mer, Chepstow, Hunter House, Isaac Bell House, Kingscote and Rosecliff.   Guided tours are led by our experienced staff of tour guides.  The narrated portion of each tour is approximately 45 minutes in length.

Self-guided audio tours are provided at The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House.   Self guided audio tours permit each member of your group to move through the house at their own pace.  Audio tours range in length from 30-90 minutes depending upon the interest of the visitor.

A self-guided tour is available at Green Animals Topiary Garden.  Detailed garden maps are distributed to our visitors to enjoy the gardens at their leisure.  Staff is located inside the estate house to answer any questions you may have about the house and gardens.

The Elms Lunch and Audio Tour Combo: Your group can relax and enjoy a mid-day boxed lunch served on the grounds of The Elms, plus the audio tour of The Elms. Boxed lunch includes your choice of  sandwich or salad, a bag of potato chips, a cookie and soft drink or bottled water.

Seasonal May through October.

Student Tours

Student tour groups are always welcome at the Newport Mansions.

The Marble House Mythology and Architecture Tour is accompanied by a downloadable Teacher Resource Guide that provides suggested lesson plans, online tours and research material to support RI learning standards for elementary students.  Designed for students in grandes 4-8, this special tour helps students gain a basic understanding of mythology and architecture through imagery, story, interactive participation and by pre-and post-visit activities.   This tour is available daily at 9:30 a.m. with advance reservations.

A Teacher Resource Guide is also available for the Green Animals History on Site Program, which enables students to understand the art of gardens.  Individual imagination and creativity of students is cultivated through lesson plans and a tour focused on the artistic evaluation of Green Animals Topiary Garden.
