Itinerary

Begin Your Adventure
8 am – Meet at Kingscote parking lot in Newport and relax on a 30-passenger luxury bus
8:30 am – Alternative pickup at Tiverton Park & Ride
9 am – Restroom stop

Guided Tour at the Boston Athenaeum
10:30 am – 12 pm
Explore one of Boston’s hidden treasures. This historic private library in Beacon Hill, home to rare books, maps and historic documents dating back to the 1400s, offers a glimpse into nearly 200 years of intellectual history. Expert docents will take us on private guided tours through the art and architecture of this remarkable space.

Lunch on Your Own at Copley Square
12:30 pm – 1:30/2 pm
Enjoy a leisurely lunch in Copley Square, choosing from a variety of dining options:
• Three cafés within the Boston Public Library.
• Nearby popular spots like Eataly, OAK Bar, Legal Seafood or Cava.

Afternoon Exploration
2 pm – 3:30 pm
Choose among three captivating experiences (each has limited capacity):

  1. Boston Public Library
    Enjoy an exclusive guided tour of this historic institution led by the library’s President, David Leonard. As the nation’s first free, municipally funded library, this landmark holds a special place in history. During the tour, you’ll explore the stunning art and architecture of the McKim building while enjoying Mr. Leonard’s unique insights and personal perspective.
  2. Trinity Church
    Discover one of America’s most celebrated architectural achievements with this private, docent-led tour. Designed by H.H. Richardson and completed in 1877, this Episcopal church features vibrant murals and intricate stained glass by John LaFarge, making it a cornerstone of American art and architecture.
  3. “The Culture Show” with Jared Bowen
    Relax at the Newsfeed Café inside the Boston Public Library and catch a live GBH radio broadcast of “The Culture Show” with Jared Bowen from 2–3 pm. After the show, enjoy an exclusive “meet and greet” with Jared, reserved especially for Preservation Society members.
